Those who know Balzac will not be able to put his book down those who don’t know him will rush from this biography to the literary treasures created by the writer Robb describes for us in prose that does justice to its subject.” ―Richard Marius, author of Thomas A Biography In the first major English biography of Honore de Balzac for over fifty years, Graham Robb has produced a compelling portrait of the great French novelist whose powers of creation were matched only by his self-destructive tendencies. Robb has given us a splendid tale, meticulously researched, lovingly put together, and beautifully told. “Honoré de Balzac was one of the greatest storytellers who ever lived, and now at last he has a biography that tells his story in a way Balzac himself would have loved―with all the ambiguities, the flaws, the illusions and myths, the realities of street and salon, the loves and affairs, and above all the imperishable stories that still have the power to make us laugh out loud in one minute and weep in the next. ![]()

My Thoughts on the BookĮven before I finished writing The Great Greene Heist, I knew I wanted to write a sequel. And as they execute another exciting caper full of twists and turns, they’ll prove that sometimes it takes a thief to catch a cheat. To get the test and clear their names, they’ll have to outrun the school’s security cameras, outwit a nosy member of the Honor Board, and outmaneuver the blackmailers while setting a trap for them in turn. So Gang Greene reunites for their biggest job yet. The jerks behind the video threaten to pass it to the principal - unless Jackson steals an advance copy of the school’s toughest exam. Then Jackson receives a link to a faked security video that seems to show him and the rest of Gang Greene flooding the school gym. And he’s been hanging out a lot with Gaby de la Cruz, so he thinks maybe, just maybe, they’ll soon have their first kiss. His friends have great new projects of their own. He is officially retired from conning, so Principal Kelsey is (mostly) off his back. ![]() ![]() Arthur A Levine / Scholastic, January, 2016 ![]() ![]() ![]() ( The Dominion Post, New Zealand) Linda Olsson evokes, with great beauty and precision, the landscape of a friendship between two very different women, each caught in a tragic moment from the past. I enjoyed it because it was simple and hilarious because of some of the situations the gods put themselves in. ![]() Fun stuff!Īlthough my rating for this book is fairly low I have to say I enjoyed it. His interest in Norse mythology originally came from Stan Lee and Jack Kirby’s Thor comics. I guess that makes sense since those characters are most familiar to us thanks to Marvel. He was specifically interested in telling about the three characters I mentioned above. I was extremely pleased with the introduction explaining Gaiman’s interest in the Norse mythologies. It focuses mostly on the adventures of the gods Odin, Thor, and Loki. The premise of Norse Mythology is a retelling of the original text entitled Poetic Eddas written from 1000 to 1300 C.E. Have you heard of it? You probably have and you’d be surprised at how similar Marvel’s Avengers and Thor movies relate closely to the stories in this book.
